Killing a Collins 618T or ARC-94 so you can modify a PRC-47 would be a waste! With a world full of good Ham transceivers out there that are smaller and better if you are just interested in QSO with average Hams why not just use one of them. The PRC-47 would be a great radio for 60 meters and the M&S net, or on the 40 meter USB Military group on 7275 or talking with other military radios but at the end of the day the PRC-47 will never compete with a modern Ham transceiver in terms of size, power requirements and performance, so converting to LSB and installing a RIT and the like may just be putting a saddle on a cow. It's a great radio if you use it in its original configuration with other military radios and worth the trouble of dealing with it then but for normal Ham that's why they have been selling so cheap at Hamfest. The GRC-106 is a lot larger and a little more money but that will give you all modes and more power.
