[MRCA] NVIS 1/4 Wave

Reversebeacon.net SNRs for last nights CQs on 80 CW with the GRC-9/Tacoma using
the NVIS 1/4 wave wire in lieu of the Hamstick were not to shabby - ranged from
13 to 33 dB on the usual New England /Mid Atlantic skimmers. Highest SNR was
31-33 dB from W3LPL in Glenwood, MD. Did not send comparison CQs with the
Hamstick, will try that maybe tonight.

NO OTH QRM here on the net...band was actually pretty quiet for this time of
year. The K4CHE TCS sounded quite good!

KK1K's QRP rig on the second round was QSA4 QRK 5. What was that Dean, the HW-8?

Made up a 1/4 wave wire last night for use as an NVIS antenna for fixed
operation of the GRC-9/Tacoma setup. Connected it right to the ball mount base
instead of the usual whip, with the other end slung up with a halyard over a
tree branch about 15 feet up. Resonated with low SWR in the low end of the 80
meter band, called a bunch of CQs on CW with it, but very little CW on the band
at the time. Will check how it hit the reversebeacon.net stations to see how
its playing at this point.

Subject: [MRCA] OMRN CW Net

Interesting conditions on the OMRN CW net last night (Sunday 21:00 EDT. 02:00Z
Monday) Ted was booming in 0n 3570 Kcs with his GRC-19 and I checked in briefly
with my TCS. But what was strange I was hearing what I thought was a radar burst
(my ECM training is finally paying off :-) - - - anyway the buzz and
brrrraaaaaapppp for a second would start up and about every 2 mins it would
burst for another quick second and then trail off. Since the nearby Dover AFB
radar antenna rotates much faster than once every couple of minutes I suspect it
was another over the horizon radar quite a distance away. LDE?
Heard my very first PRC-47 on CW from Dean's KK1K set , really a punch signal,
wish I had a scope on line to look at it, for now I will call it CW with an
audio punch with excellent keying characteristics. And thanks to KW1I, for
QRS.
