I've had very good luck with Astron converters, I have used them on 
commercial equipment such as a front end loaders and on my own M151A1.  
They have survived heat, rain,vibration, overload,starter surges   etc. 
and are fairly quite, not perfectly quite but close enough for 
government work. The trick is to get a device that will survive the 
starter surge, i.e. when the operator starts the vehicle and then 
releases the starter switch  the sudden surge can really wipe out 
sensitive electronics .  Good advice even to day is to turn off all 
unnecessary equipment in your vehicle when starting it.
