[MRCA] Bc-348 restoration

They seem like a well established outfit, to be sure.

The wiring is external interconnect harnesses. I’ll be making them since I
pretty much have to do them in situ but they’ll be providing the wire for
them. Most of it will be open laced (double laced? I can’t remember at the
moment.) wiring but the SCR-A*-183 will be shielded as original since I
found a company that makes the same sort of armor as was used with that set
starting back in the 30s. The SCR-274-N could also be armored but I’m not
so masochistic as to want to do a second set, especially one more complex.
The Navy rigs will be set up in a WW II aircraft carrier maintenance shop
environment so definitely can be all open wiring including some “make do”
work which wouldn’t be out of place aboard a ship that had seen action.

I’m hoping to add a second SCR-274-N setup of which I have a photo that was
taken at a British airfield during the war. It’s mounted in the back of a
Jeep and is about as simplistic as they come. There are no racks or mounts
and the wiring has been minimized as far as possible with the Rx controls
and the mic & headphone jacks on a piece of bent aluminum that’s also
holding the antenna relay in place. There is an anomalous Tx control box
attached to one side of the modulator – anomalous since the functions could
be handled the same way the Rx was with minimal controls on a hunk of sheet
aluminum. This is one situation where “museum quality” would definitely be
out of place. :-)

Best regards,

These guys have been around for a long time, a frat brother of mine at URI
worked for them in the early 70s, at that time they were in Peacedale, RI
between URI and Wakefield. They are now about 12 miles from my home QTH
here in CT. May have been operating under a different name in Peacedale.
Interesting that they will do radio harnesses as well as auto ones. Would be
interested in seeing what they have done for your command sets, was it
internal chassis wiring or external component to component connector cables?
Do they do connectors on external harnesses?

You may want to try this place - http://www.narragansettreproductions.com/
They are where I’m going (and have gone) for my command set system
(SCR-274-N, ARA/ATA, SCR-A*-183 & GF/RU) wiring as well as wire needed for
repro 1930s rigs.
