Am I correct in this assumption?

I am being told that the 15 9 volt batteries will not have the capacity of
the 90 AA volts. From my research these batteries will be similar in
ratings.

Can anyone confirm this?

The battery article on army radios UK. It talks about using 15 9 volt ba=
tteries and 8 D cells.

It appears the original battery used 90 AA batteries and 8 D cells.

From my research these batteries are similar in mAh ratings.
