Both the PRC-71 (Sylvania) and the PRC-72 (Bendix) were mid 60's
attempts by the Service to make a 4 band communication device (via 4
independent radios strapped together or separated) to cover the 4 widely
spaced bands needed by an FAC (forward air controller). Bands were
roughly 4-20 (2-12) MHZ SSB/CW, 30-50 FM, 110-140 AM, and 240-350 AM. 7
of the 8 radios developed were channelized, while only the Bendix HF set
was synthesized (2-12 MHz in 1 kHz steps). Set was bulky and heavy. I do
not think many were made.
