Minor point, maybe, but I don't think that the 10 megohm is "per volt".
It's fixed regardless of range, like 11 megohm with your typical VTVM.
WRT digital meters, I never encountered anyone using a digital meter who
knew how to fix anything except once in a while a blown fuse. But that's
another subject entirely.
