[MRCA] Gilbert 2012 - no-show

It's going to run from the battery through a pair of No. 8 red/black stranded
cable encased in plastic loom to match the rest of the harnesses through a thin
rubber plug that is under the carpet of the cab floor just behind the drivers
seat. Will terminate the leads in a heavy plastic outdoor wiring box under the
seat, will run leads for the various loads from the J box. Will put in line
fuses on both the positive and negative leads at the battery, or maybe a pair
of DC circuit breakers. Want to make the leads fairly heavy so I can power the
GRC-9 DY88 directly from the truck electrical system. In the past I have used
an independent deep cycle battery with the DY88 but did not have a hardwired
means to recharge it.
The antenna cables will exit the cab through the same hole. Wiring going in
this week. For the time being, I will mount the Hamsticks on one of the truck
holddown cleats positioned just forward of the tailgate on the drivers side.
Just drilled out one of the nominal 1/4 inch holes on the side of the cleat to
3/8" to take a 3/8X24 bolt into a double female 3/8/24 coupling, antenna bolts
into the top of the coupling. The cleat is plastic and is non-conductive.
Eventually, will mount L brackets on the pedestals just forward of the tailgate,
using the two existing bolts there and a drilled and tapped third bolt just
below them to keep the bracket from rocking. The cleat mount arrangement for
a full size hamstick tends to put some twisting load on the mounting rail the
cleat locks into, and I don't want to damage it. The feedline coax shield will
be grounded under one of the aforementioned bolts on the pedestal.

I talked to you on the mil-rad net. How did you end up getting power to the back
if your truck?
