Hi everyone!
Who is near Texas and can repair a PRC-74? Who can the croup recommend from
experience?
I got it at an auction sight unseen on the recommendation of a 'fellow ham' -
who was in charge, who said it was complete and worked.
Well, no it doesn't and it dang sure ain't right - got cheated/gypped. That was
not nice at all.. Then for him to act like "duuhh I don't know.." Nice fellow.
Nice ham with the sale commission in his pocket.
OK well that's the story, so never mind the weasel, maybe someone can fix it.
There seems to be more than one issue. The little unshielded circuit board in
the bottom is missing but the rest looks complete. The MHz knob does not turn
properly, but I think that is because the front panel was not put back on right
so the shafts line up. I'm going to check into that myself and at least make
sure the RF tuner is OK mechanically. I have a copy of the manual, electronic.
I think it's worth repairing. parts and modules are around for them and it's not
that complicated, but it's a little specialized to do module repair.
I normally do my own work on other military stuff, like the GRC-106/A,
RT524/246, PRC25/77 and Racal TRA-967's. But I have no experience with this
little back pack HF SSB set and would rather pay someone to get it back to 100%.
Save me some time, I just want to get it right and enjoy it. gotta love a green
radio!
Thank you,
Patrick Jankowiak
