FB guys. According to Google Earth that would be a distance of about
3.5 miles. Should be possible to do better than that over an
unobstructed water path. Hope you're able to undertake some
additional exercises.
Made a test run a number of years ago with a BC-611 on the SS Lane
Victory just off Santa Catalina Island and a GRC-9 on the beach near
Ft. MacArthur, a distance of approximately 17 miles LOS. The GRC-9
voice signal was 5 x 9 all the way out and back on the 611. At 17
miles the 611 carrier was clearly audible on the beach but no
intelligible voice came through. Set up a test between a pair of 611s
on another occasion, one on the beach and another on the ship as it
sailed away but equipment malfunctions prevented achieving any
meaningful results on that attempt.
