Indeed, the band just went away.  Thanks for the link, it shows we moved 
up to an M-class flare,  We'd been having C-class flares that had almost 
no effect.

I generally take a lookat solar conditions from the Aussie site before 
the net: http://www.ips.gov.au/HF_Systems/6/5

The X-ray flux was C 5.3 when I checked about 11:40 local.  It's now M 8.4.
