An interesting little tidbit of history once related to me by a retired Collns engineer. As we already know, Aurthor Collins was heavily involved in early SSB development & promotion. Once he had gotten his point across the Airforce approached him wanting suitable aircraft HF/SSB equipment. Collins had recently finished designing, & had built a few, 618T's which he promptly demonstrated for the Air Force. The Air Force was suitably empress to the point they said, "you mil spec it and we'll take it". Aurthor responded, it's plenty good as it is, you can take it or leave it. We all know the rest of the story.
