I just got off the air with WB4ETT on 7296. He was mobile just crossing over the Missouri Illinois line. I was pedestrian mobile with the below set at about 250 mile distant. I still need an original battery box & antenna but until then, it is on the air.

SGC Model SG-715, synthesized or crystal control, 1.6-15mc 20 watts SSB. Forerunner to both the SG-2000(role dependent, & SG-2020.

Pix #1, Per lack of an original battery box, 5ahr "C' cell pack is contained in the ammo pouch on the left side. Yes that little antenna actually works. Minutes before I had been on the air with WB4ETT who was mobile on 7.296mc approx 200 miles away at 18:30 June/4/2012.

Pix #2, As the 715 had no internal antenna tuner, it use a loaded whip screwed into the combination antenna base/carry handle on the right side. Used here is an AB-129 military spring base for the PRC-10 combined with a variable coil and AT-892 steel tape antenna for the PRC-25/77. This coil will load the AT-892 down to 60 meters, & longer whips down to 80 meters. The coil tap is shown set for 7.296mc.

Pix #3, This is the original microphone. Handsets & headsets were optional & front panel switch selects between them.

Pix #4, Synthesized versions were available in 99 channel programmable, or with direct frequency selection via switches on the front panel. LSB, CW, squelch, were among other options.

Pix #5, K4CHE, Breck Smith's crystal control version. He has fitted it with DDS and uses it regularly on 60 meters. Xtal control was an option to provide for minimal current drain. They were supplied with solar panels & could remain deployed indefinitely.

Pix #6, K4CHE, showing the crystal oscillator board.

Pix #7, K4CHE, transceiver board. It appears Breck's radio was equipped with the LSB option.

My apologies for posting these with another group, but this group is open to the public and unmoderated:

I'm interested in obtaining most examples of SGC radios if for no other reason just parts.
