SEM-35 are cheap, think Murphy sells them for $200 each. They use regular dry cell batteries and have the added benefit of being from east Germany! PRC-10 transceivers use to be cheap but having to build a inverter or trying to build up battery packs for them can be a drag, also somehow along with the PRC-6 they have gotten a lot more expensive in the past couple years.

Hi All,
As the PRC-77s  etc. are getting too pricey to send into the woods with my son and his friends, are there more modern sets with interoperability on 51Mc that are less pricey?  He is getting to the point where he could probably pass a license test and it would be fun for papa to have an RT-524 at base or in the car and send him to the field with a $100 radio.
