Long ago after wrestling for hours to get a dipole antenna up, I decide there must be better way.

The antenna set detailed in this file works extremely well. It can be
configured as a fixed station, mobile, or even as a pedestrian mobile
antenna dependent on the whip elements you choose to use.

The coil used in this particular arrangement is currently available for
as little as $40 from several ebay venders in Oklahoma(copy),
Iowa(original), California(incomplete copy).

Be sure to read the text page which explains each of the pictures.
Several times I have operated an 18ft version of this antenna while
portable and had opportunity to compare it side by side with low mounted
 dipoles(about 15-20ft) on both 75 & 40 meters. From Missouri I was
able to work both coast & just about everything in between. I
switched back & forth between the whip & the dipoles rapidly to
obtain signal reports. "No difference" was almost unanimously reported.

I have also built a 21ft "Portable Station" antenna that works extremely
well but is not as versatile as this one. I will supply details of it
too if your interested.
