Al:
I'll be glad to QSO with you via my FT-857 if you don't mind working a non-milrad.

Gang,
The URC-14 seems ready for serious testing at Gilbert on the official MRCA 2-meter frequency. The PRC-117D will be there to provide backup on VHF AM.
I'd like to thanks Zorro, K4CHE, for his advice and encouragement.
For anyone considering a similar project, I can recommend International Crystal Manufacturing for custom crystals. They are easy to deal with and prompt. All it took was money, $28.34 in this case. The important missing parameter for the 72.125 MHz 5th overtone crystal was that it needs to be specified as "series resonant." Also, it was necessary to remove one turn from each of the four coils in the radio to move up from the original 121.5 MHz. This was not difficult.
YMMV,
Al
