I tend to agree. But, the sides of the boxes in the lower portion of the
photograph say "Eveready" on them. In the late 1920s there were entertainment
receivers made by American Bosch for sale under the Eveready (National Carbon)
name.
I wonder if there's any relationship of Eveready on this pictured receiver-
transmitter set to the Eveready which sold the entertainment receivers. A
battery-powered receiver-transmitter application would seem a possibility
for Eveready, known principally for battery production.
The front-facing cover seems to have (albeit with some imagination):
...cilian Locality name???
...tion Expedition???
...ady Eveready
...ries Batteries??
...ansmitter Transmitter
In any event, the "Eveready" on the pictured radio set boxes makes it likely
a commercial set rather than a military one...IMHO.
