[MRCA] In Search of Hen's Teeth

Hi Ray,

Well, it has a lot in common with the RF-301A from studying the
manual. You can tune it up on synth spurs if you're not careful.

They got rid of the tubes in the RX front end. The TX is a 4604
(quick-heat 12-volt 6146) driven by a 7905. Makes about 50 watts PEP.
Of course, still has a DC-DC converter, but only on transmit.

I'm a little confused with the audio accessories. The 7-pin connector
has an input for both carbon and dynamic mic, but the dynamic input
lacks a credible mic preamp. There is 12 volts on the connector. Did
they use some sort of amplified mic? I cobbled up a connector
replacement, and built a dongle that contains the Plessy VOGAD IC used
in the Transworld TW-100. This way I can use the modern military
accessories.

I got reasonable reports on Moose and Squirrel today.

Regards,
Al

Hope they don't use the same injection and mixing scheme as the 301 along with those gold plated fork connectors, but looking at the pictures though I saw signs of both. The good thing is yours works, and being solid state eliminates the DC to DC converter. What's the power output of that radio?
