The TBX and TBY were identified as weak points in communications, not cretin myself and just asked someone who should know but wonder what the mid range shore to ship radio was? You have TBX, MAB and DAV short range stuff but the only other man transportable system I can think of is the TBW but that was considered a forward base set. Had to be something else the Navy and Marines could use to fit that role of short to medium range shore to ship and shore to aircraft. After the battle of Savo island the Navy had to withdraw from Guadalcanal and did not have time to unload radio equipment to the Marines, TBW maybe? So they were forced to use a captured Japanese transmitter installation for long range communications.

I feel sorry for USMC radio men of WW2.
With radios like the TBY and TBX, I have to believe guts were the reason the Marines carried the day on the battlefield.
Good commo gear looks like a weak point.
