[MRCA] Frequency Change

Today's M & S net on 5.3715 Channel 4 for the 1st time is in my opinion on a
slightly noisy channel. Granted the radar QRM is gone and it is much better
than before, I think that for some reason and I can not explain why channel
4 for some reason has more natural ambient noise than our previous channel.
For instance I can resonate my antenna on channel 4 and then switch to
channel 5 and the background noise lessens. Tune up on channel 5 and then
switch to 4 the noise increases. I am not saying that we shouldn't have made
the switch but when conditions are marginal as they were today, it makes
communication tough especially with low power. I am usually running low
power and when the conditions are good QRP (5 Watts). For instance during the
height of Irene I was able to maintain an hourly schedule with k2ors in
Mass,Don k3op in Kutztown, Pa Kw1i in NH , and kk1k in VT using my FT 817
with just 5 watts. Todays net was entirely different. I think maybe we
should try channel 4 for a period of time and then make a decision where we
should settle. I am just giving this feedback with my opinion. Your opinion
may vary.

Folks,

Effective Tuesday, 30 AUG 2011, the primary frequency for The Moose and
Squirrel Cold-War Clandestine and Long-Range-Reconnaissance-Patrol Net
will change to 5371.5 KHz (Channel 4). We're making this change in
order to vacate 5403.5 KHz (Channel 5) which is the designated 60-meter
calling frequency. This change is feasible because the long standing
QRM problem on Channel 4 has been resolved.

Alternate net frequencies will be 5336.5 KHz (Channel 3), 5346.5 KHz
(Channel 2), 5330.5 KHz (Channel 1), and then Channel 5 if all else fails.

VY 73,
Fearless Leader
