Plan to participate in the radio ops this weekend at the MRCA Meet:
Friday afternoon groups will depart for three state parks in the surrounding
area. Communications will be established back to base at the West End
Fairgrounds. Communicaitons will be attempted at least on six meter FM
(51.0 mHz), 60 meter SSB and 75 meter AM, SSB and CW. Individuals are
planning to bring radios that cover other frequencies as well. Depending on
who brings what, each location will have some combination of homebrew or
military horizontal or vertical HF antennas to evaluate various antenna
effectiveness over roughly 10-20 mile paths between stations. Bring any rig
that you would like to check out. Bring your favorite field antenna and see
how it compares to other antennas. Or, just join one of the groups and help
carry, set-up and take down equipment.
Saturday morning after breakfast at the MRCA meeting site individuals and
teams with low power field radios and field antennas will be deployed to
sites within a mile or two of the fairground. This exercise is good one to
check out your field radio or back pack radio. Can you get it set up and on
the air? Are you really ready to deploy! You will not only be contacting
the fairground base station, but other stations in the field.
Charge those batteries, check if you have the mic and key and all the
connecting cables. How about antenna connector adapters? Bring the manual
to read by flashlight in your sleeping bag the night before.
Saturday mid-day we hope to have BC-611 and similar hand or back pack sets
operating around the Howell Bldg and wandering throughout the Red Ball flea
market area.
If you have questions about these exercises send them to the MRCA reflector:
