The initial activation of the Moose and Squirrel Cold-War Clandestine
and Long-Range-Reconnaissance-Patrol Net, that may well become C-LRRP,
took place on 14 Oct 2010 on 5403.5 KHz. 60-meters, at this time of
day, under current conditions allows relatively close-in contacts, while
still reaching out a couple hundred miles. We had eight checkins
covering the region from Dover, DE to Bow, NH.
Conditions were good, with virtually all stations were able to work each
other. The backbone of the operation was made up of Military Radio
Collectors Association regulars, but we had a few "civilian"
participants, including N3JQD on his lunch hour with an improvised
antenna. Based on this initial success, we have resolved to continue net
operations every Tuesday and Thursday. It was also suggest that all
available stations check this frequency for casual contacts on any day
at noon. (The New England gang will be OTA at Nearfest tomorrow and
Saturday.)
The intent here is to provide a predictable venue for operating our
military and paramilitary radios. Hopefully we'll encourage folks to
take their portable and back-pack sets out in the field for future
nets. Such regional NVIS operation is easily accomplished with a
20-watt radio and a simple wire antenna.
And, the net has a webpage: http://www.mrca.ar88.net/Net/MandS.html
Hoping to here you on the net,
Al
