Steve,

Thanks, glad it's proved to be so successful.  The husky transformer  
in the old charger had a 24 volt center tapped secondary originally  
used with a full wave rectifier.  Primary was tapped giving a range of  
output voltages.  I just hung a full-wave bridge on it and a bunch of  
computer caps on the outside of the can shaped enclosure.  Simple  
brute-force supply.  Found a suitable transformer later at a 'fest in  
PA and built up a similar unit in a nice cabinet which I use to this  
day.
