Dennis,  One of my R models has the original dynamotor and I run it 
regularly.  I does get fairly warm but not red hot.  Mine was noisy to 
begin with and had an unpleasant sound to it, not unlike a knife 
sharpener.  I had it overhauled by a local motor house and it hums now.  
Same-o-same-o for my PE-73's.  I may well have been overkill to replace 
the bearings in the unused PE-73's, but at least I know what situation is.

BTW, the BC-669D project is at the point where fire is ready to be 
applied.......
