It more then likely violates several laws and is extremely dangerous but I have had lots of luck using the original Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Iron battery, just have to keep them clean, contained and removed from the radios when not in use. not to mention the gloves and goggles! will soon be building a 1.2 volt Nicad replacement pack and seeing how that works. myself just don't like the idea of wasting voltage and generating heat.
