Ray,
The TG-5 was usually used along with the EE-8. The TG-5 can use the
same pair of lines as the EE-8 and was usually wired in between the
center tap (ground lug)of a balanced telephone output and ground. When
the EE-8 and TG-5 are used at the same time, there should be no
interference. The EE-8 could not be used to transmit classified
information. With the TG-5, sensitive messages were encrypted off-line,
then passed along using morse code. The TG-5 operates at about 22 volts
and is detectable by an enemy. The Fullerphone is similar to the TG-5
but operates at a 1.5 volts with a slow rise and fall time during
keying. The Fullerphone resists but is not immune to detection.
I have a pair of TG-5 and a pair of Fullerphones. I like the TG-5
because is has a small doorbell to call the operators attention. I hope
someday I'll find a use for these units. There is some interesting
reading on the internet about the Fullerphone.
