One has to wonder why. Training, maybe. But these sets are so primative that they wouldn't be all the useful even in that role. The SCR-284, SCR-288, and SCR-694 are very advanced in comparison. (The SCR-288 is my personal favorite.)

Most of it is pretty solidly attached. Plus, there's a plug and cable that has to be inserted to complete a metering circuit (IIRC) once the chest cover is lowered. There's supposed to be some sort of small light-bulb assembly that plugs into the receiver battery box to provide panel illumination, but my set is missing that.
