Actually, that's not true.  First, the AS-2259/GR covers 2 to 30 MC, which 
last time I checked included all HF ham bands between 3 and 30 MC.  

Second, a simple dipole close to ground is simply a very inefficient 
bi-directional antenna and doesn't qualify to be called an NVIS antenna, whereas the 
AS-2259 is omnidirectional and does.  That's what it was designed for, and 
unlike the chest high dipole it does an excellent job at it.

Third, you need to read the theory section of TM 11-5985-379-14&P, especially 
the section about losses incurred when you operate a simple dipole near the 
ground.  

Fourth, being a purist in such matters, if you're going to claim to be a 
military radio collector operating a military radio, you ought to operate it as 
designed, not just any old way and with any modifications you damn well please.  
Otherwise, you are not a collector but just some kid playing Army. 

Fifth, I don't really care whether anyone buys either of my spare AS-2259's 
or not.  The subject of NVIS antennas kept coming up on this list.  I knew that 
I had two of the very few successful designs built over the past 70 years.  
So I thought I'd offer to turn loose of them instead of letting them sit as 
spares in my storage building.  But for someone to make a post like this one, 
deliberately denigrating me for offering something mililtary radio related for 
sale on a military radio related list where others routinely offer such things 
for sale, really sucks.
