Al,

When the Hosstraders Tailgate Swapfest and Fleamarket organizers announced
they were not going to do the spring and fall events any more I started to
think about a MRCA type two day event for the spring date (May 4,5) not far
from where Hosstraders took place. We have a growing number of military
radio and vehicle people who set up together at the twice a year Hosstraders
to play radio, cook on the field kitchen and do a little buying and selling.
A few weeks after the cancellation of Hosstraders a group of New England
amateurs announced a plan to host a new spring and fall event called New
England Amateur Radio Festival, NEAR-FEST (www.near-fest.com). This idea
rapidly gained momentum in the New England amateur community. One of the
organizers contacted me to request that the military radio guys support
these events. They were very accommodating, so we are slated to set up on
Friday and have mil radio fun through Saturday mid-afternoon. Happily, the
WX forecast looks good at this point.

The event organizers are trying to broaden the appeal of this event beyond
buying and selling. We may find in the future that it might be a good
opportunity for a Spring MRCA meet, complete with sessions, displays and
tactical radio ops. The site is a excellent fairground about 15 miles
northeast of Manchester, NH in Deerfield, NH. We'll post some some
a"after-actions" comments about the event next week.

Dale
