Thanks for the offer to assist a bit with this. It would help if you could find the following dimensions for me:
1. Inner diameter of the outer conductor on the mast;
2. Outer diameter of the inner conductor of the mast;
3. Any specs on the dielectric material in between these two conductors. Otherwise I'll assume it's similar in composition to Andrew Heliax's dielectric;
4. Feedpoint impedance at the base of the mast/antenna when erected, with no matching device in between the feedpoint and the measuring equipment. You could use your portable PRC-47 mount and BNC connector as you suggested.
For my study I need to know the actual impedance of the "transmission line" that the mast comprises. Steps 1-3 or step 4 alone will provide that info.
What I'm trying to do is develop just such a tuner as you're suggesting. But because the impedances are so reactive in the Ham bands, I might not get it right the first time if I just throw a couple of caps and coils together.
BTW - What are the values of the components in your tuner?
Thanks for your help. CU @ GIlbert.
