HI gang:
Those of us who have procured a TRC-77 soon realize that, unless you are
extremely lucky, finding the proper mating power connector is darned near
impossible.
Having exhausted all the normal channels of trying to find a mating power
connector for my TRC-77A, I suddenly had a brillant idea to check in a box
of MOLEX-type connectors salvaged from various computers and monitors I have
junked out over the years.
I found several two pronged female connectors that will friction-fit on the
power plug on the bottom of the TRC-77A. While there is no cinch down ring
to make the connection between plug and jack physically tight, there exists
enough friction on the plug to keep it tightly in contact with the pins on
the jack.
All one needs to do now is solder some red/black zip-cord on to the
connector (be sure to observe polarity) and plug it into the radio. The
other end is terminated in Anderson PowerPole connectors to match the rest
of the low voltage equipment I use.
While it certainly is not elegent, it defintately works and protects the
power port on the radio, greatly reducing the chances of shorting out the
power cable (as when using alligator clips) and blowing fuses.
