Will have the ART-13 or the GRC-19 up! Got my new replacement 24VDC 50A supply on service and it works great. Its a Power Conversion Products PE-24-50B charger/power supply. Designed to do exactly what I do - keep a battery bank charged and power paralled loads at the same time. It uses a ferro-resonant transformer with feedback control to maintian DC output voltage within 1/2 percent from no load to full load. I set the output voltage to float the batteries and it just sits there stable as a rock voltage wise as I flash up the ART-13 dyno. Getting notably more output from the 13 set and no more PS/battery sag on long transmissons. The supply doesnt even get warm! About the size of the typical mil spec 50A 24 V supplies, but weighs 150 pounds!!!! Commercial grade construction, originally application was to power microwave repeater installations, circa 1985 design.
PCP of Elk Grove Illinois is now a subsidiary of Eltek Energy Resources LLC, has a great web page with modern versions of similar products.
Very interesting design with a triac controlling the FR transformer core saturation to regualte DC output at the AC side of the supply.
I think the supply's DC output ammeter is flakey - says I'm drawing over 75A steady state on transmit with the ART-13. Don't ever remember seeing that much draw on my old manually Variac adjsuted supply -at most 35-40A. Anyone care to comment on ART-13 current draw when running a DY17A dyno?
see you on the net,
