RE the Motorola test set;
Later versions had a test oscilator in small panel at
top.

If this is old set the batteries may have been left in
and rotted out,these were "D" cells in top
compartment.I put ni-cads and a chargerin the batt
compartment.
One more battery is inside used to bias meter io
center scale for deviation measurements on switch
posistion 4.
