[Motorola] Rectifiers

i was showing a few old guys my Motorola rigs and they spotted the little square stack of blue heat fins.
They had no idea what they even were, Resistor/Capacitor???
I told them they were Rectifiers. Selenium Rectifiers. and they had never heard of them or seen them before.
I told them how rotten the smell is when they blow up.
Then told them that there were no 1N4007's in existence in those days.
We made a lot of stuff before the advancements in semiconductors.
When did you first see a LED?
