It sounds like a typical picture tube problem of the high voltage to
the tube have failed.

Subject: [Motorola] Motorola R2001D test set display problem.
Hi
I recently turned on my Motorola R2001D test set and all I could see on
the screen was a snowy display with some text in the back ground? After
20-30 minutes the snowy effect disappeared and a frame collapsed
display appeared with some small text visible. Does anyone have any
ideas what could cause these faults?
Prior to these faults the focus control didn't work and the brightness
control wouldn't turn down the brightness fully.
Many thanks
Stuart Perry
