From w0rw1 at msn.com Tue Jun 26 13:14:49 2018 From: w0rw1 at msn.com (Paul Signorelli) Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2018 17:14:49 +0000 Subject: [Motorola] L43-GGV Oscillator Tube Fails Message-ID: My old Motorola L43-GGV Base Station just had another failure, 6 - 2018. The F1 crystal oscillator tube, 6CE5/6BC5 (Motorola tube) in the receiver (G-Strip, Unichannel) developed a shorted filament. They usually they open up. This is an unusual crystal oscillator tube (most are 12AT7's). The radio has been in intermittent service on 146.52 for 30 years. It was working on the bench (horizontal) for a week. I turned it off, picked it up and carefully moved it 6 feet to another horizontal surface and the tube failed. It was at Ice Station Zebra which is unheated so it gets a lot of wide range temperature cycling. Temperature cycling eventually wrecks everything. Paul w0rw Colorado
