Scott,

Thanks for that info!

So, when you say Spectra, does that cover ASTRO also? It would be great to have the1073 head with the Astro Spectra!

The reason I am getting ready to program the group of Astro Spectra radios is that we do not know if [MARS] is going to be required to switch to "Narrow Band". For now, the radios will be programmed "Conventional" 25 kHz channel spacing. Our McChord AFB MARS Station just installed a Motorola QUANTAR rpt., just to be ready for the possible switch.

Regards,

Tim W7TRH / AFA0TP Wa.

The 1073 head can be blanked, its an old trick that not many know about, get
yourself a chip extractor and pull the firmware chip, leave the
codeplug/memory chip in place, power up the head without a radio attached,
it will act weird and sometimes flash the backlight a few times and then go
blank or turn everything on, after it does all this shut it off and remove
power, reinsert firmware chip and connect to whatever radio you want and
reprogram.  I have done this successfully a half dozen times or so to move
heads between Spectra and X9000 and it works like a charm.

Scott
