[Motorola] Changing Range2 to Range1[Astro Spectra]

Hello, 



Before I purchase RSS from Motorola, I would like to know that the Range 2 Astro Spectra can be programmed as Range1. If so, could someone help me with the hex editing, if required? 



I do understand after the radio's range has been altered, there is more work to be done. I heard of someone that can modify the VCO steering with silver paint, and tune radio for about $30.00 per radio. Has anyone dealt with this technician? 



I have about [25] Astro Spectras [100w mobile] to program for 142/143 mHz [Air Force MARS]. We don't mind purchasing the RSS/CPS, but again, want to make sure that the conversion is possible. 



I have the Motorola RIB, and "High Power" RIB to Radio cable.......Just need to go-ahead from someone who has attempted the range change, ans would not mind helping me hex edit, and walk me through the programming of one radio. As always, I really respect everyone's knowledge and wisdom......THANKS!
