The original "Handie Talkie", which everyone in this
discussion is calling a "Luggie Talkie", came in both
the less than 2 watt version and a 5 watt version.
Now the 5 watt version had exactly the same
transmitter as the 10 watt mobile versions (they used
a 2E24 tube in the final amplifier - the 2E24 is the
"instant filament" version of the 2E26) but did not
have the output power (due to battery limitations) of
the mobile units.
The solid-state "B" receiver was also used in the
original "Business Dispatcher" along with the "M"
transmitter (i.e. D33BMT- units). Those soon gave way
to the "C" receiver (which was a variation on the
Motrac receiver) which was considerably better (i.e.
D33CMT- units).

I had a "Dispatcher" that I re-channeled and
re-aligned to transmit on 151.370 and receive on
159.225. It did have a PL. I wired inside 4 different
frequency PL reeds and a selector switch for PL
transmit.
It was very much the same radio as the PT series
"Lunchbox" radios except the PA which I think was 10
watts for the Dispatcher and something like 2 watts
for the PT. I think that it also had a beefed up
audio PA to drive an external speaker.
