Brian,
The TLD1693 amplifier is designed to cover 150.8 to 162 MHz, and is by far
the most common PA found on the surplus market. The good news is that it
will put out 100 watts continuously. The bad news is that it usually won't
tune much below 149 MHz before it starts to become inefficient and a
spurious signal generator. The PA needed for the 2m band is the TLD1692,
which is designed to cover the 132 to 150.8 MHz band. There are more than
80 components that are different between these two amplifiers, and each one
of them is different for a good reason. Converting a TLD1693 PA into a
TLD1692 is an expensive and very time-consuming task, and many Hams who have
done it swear that they'll never do it again. Part of the problem is that
some of the coils and capacitors are unique to Motorola, and are no longer
available.
Some Hams who start the mod lose interest partway through it and think that
it "should work okay" with only some of the components changed. Such
partial mods all too often backfire, when the PA smokes after a few weeks or
months of seemingly flawless operation. Of course, the smoked PA wasn't
even close to flawless, but the owner didn't have the test equipment to see
what wasn't right.
The TLD1692 PA was widely used in Canada, and are still available through
Bro-Comm and other vendors. The U. S. military used a lot of Micors in the
138-140 MHz band, and the TLD1692 PAs may be found at surplus auctions.

Subject: [Motorola] Info on VHF amp TLD1693 AV
Hello everybody new to the list here.
Does anybody have a link or good info on the above VHF amp.
A friend of mine bought one of these recently off Ebay and wants to
possibly use it on a 2m ham repeater, but neither he nor I can find
any info on it.
Thought maybe someone on the list here might be able to help.
Thanks and 73,
Brian
