[Motorola] Old Motorola Equipment Numbering System

   This is a refresher for Motorola new comers.
If you know all about this system, just delete this email.
   This is the general Motorola Equipment numbering system, 
(you will always find exceptions).
   The Motorola numbering system is given by six basic characters...
Letter, digit, digit, letter, letter, letter...
The first character tells you the type of unit:
H - Handie Talkie
P - Portable unit larger than HT, (We called these Stager Talkies).
L - Tabletop base station
D - Dash mount mobile
T - Trunk mount mobile
U - Universal (dash or trunk, mobile)
J - Tall Cabinet, Wx proof
B - Tall Cabinet, indoor
W - Western Electric (mobile telephone)

Second digit describes the Power Output:
1 - 1W or less
2 - 2 to 5W
3 - 10 to15W
4 - 18 to 30W
5 - 30 to 60W
6 - 70 to 100W
7 - 150W
8 - 250W
9 - 300W

The third digit identifies the frequency of operation:
1 - Low band 30 - 50 MHz
2 - Midband  70 Mhz
3 - High Band  150 MHz
4 - UHF  450 MHz

The next 2 letters identify the model of the transmitter and receiver.

The last letter identifies the power supply type:
B - Base station
T - Transistor mobile
V - Vibrator
D - Dynamotor
N - Nickel Cadmium battery pack

They also had general marketing numbers Like HT-200, PT-400, HT-220.
