[Motorola] "Lunchbox" PT400

The manuals do show up on eBay. Item 280053912157, for which the
auction is about to end, is a low band manual. It is not clear exactly
which models it covers.

There is a Yahoo! group dedicated to these radios:
motorolaptportableradio. It is a small group with little activity, but
you might find some additional help there.

Batlabs has the diagram of the battery pack connections. You could use
this to connect up a bench supply at 14.4 volts to test the unit. Do be
careful with the polarity. As I understand it, the chassis common is
actually the positive side and you need to be sure the antenna is
isolated from power ground (double check this). I have soldered a
couple of wires to a DB-9 to connect mine to a bench supply for test
purposes.

I have one here that I plan to get going on 2M Real Soon Now. That's a
project for the new year.

Note that although the PT series look quite similar, the PT400 is a bit
longer than the others, thus, battery packs and chargers for the PT300
won't work for the PT400.

Gary
