If your agency uses UHF Motorola XTS3000 portables, this may interest you.

I've noticed in some XTS3000 H09SDF9PW7BN portables that a rumbling or
scratching sound is heard in the transmitted (analog wide or narrow)
audio, over any channel. Officers may describe the sound as wind blowing in
the mike or static. Dispatchers or officers
may mistake the noise issue for transmitting from inside a weak signal area.

One test for this is to gently twist or put pressure on the case and antenna
while transmitting.
This may help reveal an intermittent noise problem that won't show up with a
normal radio check.

When you fill out your service request form for the Motorola Depot, you may
want to add the comment
to perform SRN 1397, and any related SRNs. Also, be sure to describe the
problem as an intermittent
scratching or rumbling sound in the transmit audio.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
Jay
