Brian,

You may have been given incorrect information. The HT1250LS is intended
from the git-go for trunking operation, NOT conventional operation. The
conventional capability in the LS models is extremely limited, either 16
or 32 channels, since the radio's memory is dedicated to handling the
complex trunking functions. As a consequence of this limitation, MDC
and QCII coding is not included. That's because unit identification and
selective calling are inherent in trunking.

I think that many of these HT1250LS radios are snapped up by unwary
buyers who think that they are getting a great deal, but (apparently)
the sellers never advise the buyers that the LS models are not intended
to be used on conventional channels, except as a bare-bones backup
mode. If all you want is conventional operation, do NOT buy an LS
model; buy an HT1250 instead. Now you know!

I am trying to program an HT 1250 LS, and was told that it could do
MDC-1200 signaling on the conventional channels. However, when I
program in a conventional personality, it will not allow me to select a
TX or RX signaling format to assign to that channel...
