Jay,

You lucked out! Motorola released Service and Repair Note SRN-1341,
dated Dec 31, 2001. It addresses the following symptoms seen in Astro
Saber and XTS3000 radios:

1. Choppy, muffled motorboat sound interspersed with voice, or
2. Digitized, metallic, robotic representation of the original audio,
or
3. Low popping noises or crackles, but the audio is still intelligible.

Gee, do any of these symptoms sound familiar? They sometimes occur with
DSP software R06.01.00 and older. The fix is to upgrade to Host
firmware R07.04.00 or greater and DSP software to R07.03.16 or greater.
The UCM firmware should be R03.44 or greater. Contact Motorola's
Florida Product Group at 888-567-7347, prompts 3-2-1 for details. I am
sending you a copy of the SRN by direct e-mail for your files.
