[Motorola] Speaking of Vintage Radios

It was basically the radio that Motorola built for the
VHF marine market. Instead of using white for the
housing, it was much darker in the amateur radio
model. A number of amateurs had been buying the
marine radio and changing the frequencies to cover the
amateur radio 2 meter band.

Also, in the late 1940s, Motorola built a 10 meter
mobile rig. This was the old "coffin" design
(receiver in one box and the transmitter in another)
but the boxes were much smaller than the FMRU 16V
(receiver) and FMTU 30D transmitter. If I remember
correctly, the units were available in either AM or FM
with AM being the more common. These were crystal
controlled, both the transmitter and the receiver.

Looking for a Motorola Metrum radio. Anyone remember
this brief entry into the amateur market?
