Dennis,

I'm far from a guru, i've just had alot of success with practicing what i've read. I have not yet done any 6m maxtrac conversions due to lack of radios to play with. One thing I need to help in doing this is decent test equipment. So far all my hacking has been by the seat of my pants. A service monitor is something I need to invest in soon.

If you haven't already, read up on this page at batlabs describing the conversion to 6m:
http://www.batlabs.com/6mmax.html

As far as 900MHz goes, i'd love to get something going up there but i'm not going to bother with a maxtrac. You have to change out filters in the front end, mess with the VCO, and it's alot of work. There are quite a few GTX mobiles that should do just fine without modifications. They seem to be going pretty cheap on ebay.

I'd like to start playing with some spectra stuff, just need to find some at reasonable prices. I want to get into some astro p-25 too, but I might as well just buy a radio shack walkie talkie since it is much cheaper when you're only talking to yourself anyway. I might as well be on Pluto since the only thing around here that hams are interested in is HF and CW.

I am looking for a cheap way to get on the county trunked system, so if anyone has any 800MHz type ii smartnet radios that will do 3 zones of 16 talkgroups each let me know. I imagine a spectra will do just fine, but if an LCS2000 will then great. A portable will suffice too. We use MCS2000 mobiles and MTS2000 portables for fire/ems and astro spectras and XTS3000 for law enforcement who use p-25. Those are out of my price range right now.

Shawn

>Are you a Maxtrac guru perhaps? I have a LB Radius (42-50), that I would like to put on 6m ham band. I have very little technical expertise in working on the innards of these radios. My current collection consists of a UHF Spectra, a bunch of MCX-1000's, an HT-1550 portable and just got a few MX-300s. We hare also working on a VHF repeater in the 143 mhz range for Air Force MARS.

>Have you ever done a converson of the Maxtrac/Radius to 6M?. If so, I would gladly pay you to get mine up and running. I'm also interested in playing with 900 mhz.

>The guys locally are now more interested in ASTRO stuff since we now have 3 UHF hamk repeaters in the Chicago area running APCO-25 digital. I remain in the dark ages with my humble analog radios. For now that is.
