Well, most of the Motorola "coffin" sets of that era
were the model FMR 16V for "low band" and FMRU 16V for
"high band" receivers and FMT 30D for "low band" and
FMTU 30D for "high band". They were very wide in
deviation (at least +/- 20 to 30 KHz) and the channel
spacing was 120 KHz on high band and 80 KHz on low
band.
The receivers used primarily "loctal" type tubes and
the transmitters used "loctal" tubes plus an 807 final
amplifier. The 6146 hadn't been invented back then.
The receiver was in one box and the transmitter in
another box.
In 1952 the deviation was reduced to +/- 15 KHz and
the channel spacing on high band to 60 KHz and on low
band 40 KHz. Then in 1962 deviation was reduced to
+/- 5 KHz and the channel spacings to 30 KHz on high
band and 20 KHz on low band.
My first 2 meter FM rig was an FMTU 30D transmitter
and an FMRU 16V receiver on 147.300 MHz in the Chicago
area in 1960.
