Paul I agree with Glen. The Micor series of radios is a far better radio to 
use as a repeater. I have converted a UHF Micor to repeater use over a year 
ago & no problems to date. Also the most expensive part of getting a 
repeater on the air today is the duplexer. If you are planning on 2 meters 
then finding a 6 cavity duplexer that will do the 600Khz split is going to 
be tough at a resonable price. Under $200 that is. You can find UHF 
duplexers that will do the UHF 5 Mhz split on E Bay for a lot less. Then you 
will also need a COR or carrier operated relay to control the whole thing.  
If you are willing to go that far you will also need coordination for the 
frequency pair. So those are the main things to consider.
