Hello All,
First off, I'd like to outline a project and find out
what 'modules/boards' I'll need to have to accomplish
it on a Flexar Base (currently on 164/167 Mhz both of
which are simplex).
Project is to re-crystal this unit for operation on
TWO Amateur Radio frequencies; the first (F1) 144.390
for use as a fixed APRS monitor link, the second on an
as yet undetermined simplex voice frequency (F2) with
CTCSS control. Note: CTCSS is NOT desired on F1.
The unit is currently set up as T/R 2/2 with a handset
and switching cradle. What I'd like to do is have the
unit operating default on F1 with audio out muted, but
when the handset is lifted from the cradle - switch to
F2 for voice operations, and return to APRS ops when
the handset is once again cradled.
I'd like to retain the function of the channel select
from the front panel, and while on F1 the audio level
should be reduced for input to the TNC, unless there
is a CTCSS (or DTMF sequence) received which would
disconnect the TNC, raise the audio level and send it
to the front panel speaker. Local voice xmit on F1 is
not needed as the unit should switch to F2 when the
handset is lifted. Of course, lifting the handset
should ALSO disconnect the TNC output so no data is
sent on F2 when the handset is off-hook.
I figure this is going to be an involved project, but
if ANY hardware can do it - /\/\ can... :)
One bright spot might be that I have a Bramco-MD435
5-channel DTMF decoder that perhaps could be integrated
into the station to handle the control of the local spkr
when on F1. This could be built into a 'base' for the
Flexar to sit on and not be TOO obtrusive... And would
NOT require the addition of an internal DTMF board.
Constructive thoughts ???

I saw what I think was the same type unit the other day
online, but just the front panel... I'm curious as to
whether this unit is an old Consolette, or something else.
And as there are only TWO sub-chassis, is is JUST receive
or JUST transmit ? Sorry for the quality of the pics.

If you determine WHAT this is, a pinout of the
11-pin test/align socket on the front (not seen in
these pics but located on lower left side of front
panel under a spring loaded hinged cover) would be
nice to have - and even better, a complete SrvMan.
I'll gladly pay postage for a Service Manual and
a couple bucks to cover the packing of same...

Thanks for any assist on either of these projects.
